Islote Los Ahorcados is an advanced dive site at a remote rocky islet off Ecuador's southern coast. Strong currents and surge make this a challenging dive, but the rewards are spectacular. The volcanic walls plunge into deep blue water, attracting hammerhead sharks, large schools of Pacific jack mackerel, and green sea turtles. The exposed position means conditions vary greatly, but on good days, this is one of mainland Ecuador's most impressive pelagic diving experiences, with encounters rivaling the Galápagos.
