Marina del Este is an advanced deep dive site off the harbor of Marina del Este between La Herradura and Nerja on Spain's Costa Tropical, reaching an impressive 40 meters depth. Beyond the sheltered harbor's beginner areas, the outer reef plunges steeply into deep Mediterranean waters, revealing a different underwater world. The deeper walls are decorated with gorgonian fans, yellow cup corals, and sponges, while large groupers, conger eels, and dentex patrol the depths. Occasional visits from eagle rays and sunfish (mola mola) during summer add excitement. The significant depth and potential currents at the reef's outer edge demand advanced certification and good gas management.
