Mushroom Garden is a beginner-friendly dive site in Micronesia, named for the mushroom-shaped coral formations that create a whimsical underwater landscape. The distinctive 'mushroom' corals — large flat-topped structures on narrow bases — dot a sandy bottom, each one housing its own micro-community of reef creatures. Soft corals and anemones add colour to the mushroom surfaces, while blennies, gobies, and cleaner shrimp set up house in the crevices. Schools of damselfish hover above each formation. The shallow, protected conditions make this site ideal for beginners and macro photography enthusiasts who can spend an entire dive exploring just a few of these unusual natural sculptures.
