Cape Plakias-Kalypso is an advanced dive site on Crete's south coast where dramatic rocky headlands plunge into the Libyan Sea. The underwater terrain features sheer walls, deep fissures, and powerful currents that sweep along the cape, bringing nutrient-rich water that attracts large pelagic visitors. Divers navigate through boulder fields colonized by orange cup corals and golden sponges, with frequent sightings of amberjack, barracuda, and the occasional Mediterranean moray hiding in crevices. The exposed position means conditions can change rapidly, requiring solid experience with current diving and open-water navigation.
