Cathedral

Cathedral is a spectacular advanced cave dive near Chania on Crete's north coast. Named for its cathedral-like main chamber with soaring ceilings and light beams filtering through overhead openings, this site offers a truly ethereal underwater experience. Divers descend through a narrow entrance before the passage opens into the vast main cavern where shafts of sunlight illuminate the turquoise water. The walls are adorned with colorful encrusting sponges and delicate bryozoans. Resident Mediterranean cardinal fish hover in the shadowed alcoves, and the occasional monk seal has been spotted resting in the cave's quieter recesses.
