Fokia's Cave is an advanced dive near Chania on Crete's north coast, named after the Mediterranean monk seal (fokia in Greek) that occasionally visits this sea cave. The dive involves navigating through a series of narrow passages and chambers that require excellent buoyancy control and cave diving skills. Inside, the rock formations are spectacular, with eroded limestone creating natural arches and columns. The cave walls are home to lobsters, slipper lobsters, and large scorpionfish. Light effects at the entrance create stunning photographic opportunities. Due to the confined spaces and potential for silt-outs, this site is reserved for experienced divers with proper cave training.
