Kaloutsi Reef is an intermediate dive near Nisyros in the Dodecanese reaching 30 meters. This volcanic reef system offers a varied underwater landscape with rocky ridges, sandy channels, and moderate walls. The volcanic substrate creates unique habitats with mineral-stained surfaces and unusual rock formations. Marine life is healthy and diverse: groupers, moray eels, and octopus inhabit the rocky areas, while schools of bream, chromis, and the occasional barracuda patrol the open water. Small gorgonian fans and colourful sponges decorate the deeper sections. The moderate depth and manageable conditions make it a good stepping stone between beginner and advanced Nisyros sites.
