Profitas Illias is a beginner-friendly dive site near the island of Makronisos in the Attica region, named after the Prophet Elijah chapel typically found on hilltops throughout Greece. The underwater terrain features a gentle slope with scattered rocks and sandy patches, providing a relaxed diving environment in the clear Aegean waters. Marine life includes the usual Mediterranean cast: wrasse, damselfish, sea bream, and blennies on the reef, with octopus and cuttlefish in the rocky areas. Posidonia beds border the site, adding biodiversity. The sheltered position ensures calm conditions, and the proximity to Athens makes it easily accessible for weekend diving excursions from Lavrio port.
