Makris Reef is a beginner-friendly dive site near the island of Makronisos in the Attica region, east of Athens. This shallow reef system features a mix of rocky outcrops and sandy channels that create diverse micro-habitats. The reef supports abundant Mediterranean marine life: wrasse, damselfish, and sea bream are ever-present, while octopus and cuttlefish shelter among the boulders. Nudibranchs of various species add splashes of colour to the rocky substrate. Posidonia seagrass meadows fringe the reef, providing nursery habitat for juvenile fish. The calm, clear waters and gentle depth profile make it an excellent choice for introductory dives and underwater photography sessions.
