Samos Katergo is an advanced dive site off the island of Samos in the North Aegean, featuring a dramatic offshore reef system subject to strong currents. The site presents steep walls and deep overhangs covered with dense gorgonian forests and vibrant sponge colonies. The currents channel nutrients that attract impressive pelagic action: large schools of amberjack and barracuda are regular visitors, with occasional tuna and even Mediterranean monk seal sightings reported. The deeper sections reveal massive groupers defending their territories and lobsters tucked into crevices. The challenging conditions demand solid experience with current management and deep diving, but the rewards include some of Samos's most spectacular underwater encounters.
