Black Rock is a dramatic dive site near Manado in North Sulawesi, named for the dark volcanic rock formation that rises from the seabed creating a striking underwater landscape. The site features steep walls and overhangs encrusted with vibrant soft corals, sponges, and tunicates in shades of orange, purple, and yellow against the dark basalt backdrop. Schools of fusiliers and anthias swirl around the pinnacle while Napoleon wrasse, bumphead parrotfish, and white-tip reef sharks patrol the deeper zones. The rock's crevices shelter lobsters, moray eels, and cleaning stations where shrimp attend to groupers. Mild to moderate currents bring nutrient-rich water that sustains the prolific coral growth, making Black Rock a visually stunning dive suitable for all experience levels.
