City Extra

City Extra is a popular muck diving site in Manado Bay, North Sulawesi, where the dark volcanic sand creates a seemingly barren landscape that actually teems with extraordinary critter life. This gentle sandy slope descending to around 20 meters is home to mimic octopus, wonderpus, flamboyant cuttlefish, bobbit worms, and an astounding array of nudibranchs. Frogfish of various species—hairy, painted, and giant—perch motionless among debris, while snake eels poke their heads from the sand and mantis shrimp guard their burrows. The site is particularly exceptional for night diving, when hunting critters emerge and bioluminescence adds a magical glow. With no current and easy shore access, City Extra is a must-dive for macro enthusiasts visiting the Manado area.
