Jay's Cathedral is an intermediate dive in the Secret Gilis of Southwest Lombok, named for a spectacular natural rock archway that forms a cathedral-like chamber at around 15 meters depth, with light streaming through openings above to illuminate the interior. The arch is decorated with orange cup corals and soft coral clusters that glow in the ambient light, creating a scene of almost spiritual beauty. Beyond the cathedral, the reef slopes to 30 meters through terraced hard coral gardens where Napoleon wrasse and bumphead parrotfish make occasional appearances. Cuttlefish frequently shelter within the arch's shadows, and large moray eels peer from crevices in the rock walls. The swim-through is wide enough for comfortable passage but narrow enough to create an intimate sense of enclosure. Jay's Cathedral is one of the Secret Gilis' signature sites, combining unique geological formations with healthy reef ecosystems in a dive that leaves a lasting impression.
