The Canyon

The Canyon is an advanced dive site in the Secret Gilis of Southwest Lombok, where a dramatic underwater ravine cuts through the reef between two rocky ridges, descending to 30 meters with sheer walls on both sides. Swimming through this narrow passage is a thrilling experience as the walls tower above and marine life concentrates in the confined space—gorgonian fans stretch across the gap, whitetip reef sharks rest on the canyon floor, and schools of glassfish form shimmering curtains at the entrance. The canyon walls are encrusted with vivid soft corals, tunicates, and sponges that paint the rock in every color. Currents can accelerate through the canyon's narrow profile, adding excitement but also demanding respect and experience. Above the canyon, the reef opens into a beautiful coral garden perfect for safety stops. The Canyon is the Secret Gilis' most dramatic dive site, combining adventurous topography with concentrated marine life encounters.
