Lambugan is an advanced dive site off South Bali's Bukit Peninsula, descending to 40 meters along a reef wall exposed to the open Indian Ocean. This lesser-known site sits in an area of powerful currents and upwellings that bring cold, nutrient-rich water from the deep ocean, creating conditions that attract impressive pelagic visitors including mola mola (ocean sunfish) during the cooler season from July to October. The reef wall features healthy growths of soft corals, sponges, and gorgonians that flourish in the strong nutrient flow. Schools of big-eye trevally, mackerel, and tuna patrol the blue water beyond the reef, while whitetip reef sharks rest in crevices along the wall. The unpredictable currents and exposure to open ocean conditions make Lambugan suitable only for experienced divers with excellent buoyancy skills. This site represents the wild, untamed side of Bali diving that exists far from the tourist-friendly waters of the island's east coast.
