Opiaref Point is a beginner-friendly dive site in the Biak Islands of Papua, where a gently sloping reef extends from the shore into the warm waters of Cenderawasih Bay. The reef features a stunning diversity of hard corals including massive Porites colonies, delicate Acropora tables, and fields of mushroom corals that have thrived in these relatively unexplored waters. Schools of fusiliers and surgeonfish patrol the reef edge, while anemone cities host multiple species of clownfish. The bay's protected position ensures calm conditions and good visibility year-round. Biak's location at the western edge of the Pacific creates a unique biogeographic crossroads where Coral Triangle species mingle with Pacific reef fauna, resulting in an exceptionally high species count for such an accessible dive. Opiaref Point is a gateway dive to Papua's extraordinary underwater world, where even the shallowest reefs hold genuine surprises.
