Rurbas Point is a beginner-friendly dive site in the Biak Islands of Papua, featuring a pristine fringing reef that slopes into the sheltered waters of Cenderawasih Bay. The reef is remarkable for its density of marine life relative to its gentle profile—the warm, nutrient-rich waters of the bay support thick schools of anthias, damselfish, and chromis that blanket the coral formations. The site is one of the better locations in Biak for encountering Napoleon wrasse, which approach divers with characteristic curiosity. Hawksbill turtles feed on sponges along the reef slope, and banded sea snakes hunt among the coral crevices. The calm conditions make Rurbas Point ideal for extended bottom times spent observing the intricate relationships between reef organisms. This is the kind of dive that exemplifies Papua's underwater promise—effortlessly beautiful reefs in waters that see only a handful of divers each year.
