Japanese Gardens is an advanced dive site in Eilat, Israel, named for the meticulously sculpted appearance of its coral formations that resemble a traditional Japanese garden. Located near the Egyptian border at Eilat's southern tip, this site features some of the healthiest and most diverse coral growth in the Gulf of Aqaba, with towering coral pinnacles, delicate table formations, and dense soft coral gardens creating an underwater landscape of extraordinary beauty. Large Napoleon wrasse are resident, along with giant moray eels and impressive groupers that have grown to considerable size in these protected waters. The deeper sections reveal black coral trees and gorgonian fans, while the shallows are alive with clouds of anthias, damselfish, and butterflyfish. Strong currents can develop along this exposed stretch of coastline, earning the advanced rating. Japanese Gardens is widely considered Eilat's finest dive site, a testament to the remarkable resilience and beauty of the Red Sea's northernmost coral reef ecosystem.
