Dixon's Pinnacle is an advanced dive site in the Andaman Islands, India, where a submerged seamount rises from deep water to within 12 meters of the surface, creating a magnet for pelagic marine life in the open Andaman Sea. The pinnacle's summit is carpeted with healthy hard corals and sea fans, while the slopes support dense soft coral growth and massive barrel sponges. The exposed position generates reliable currents that attract schools of barracuda, trevally, and occasionally manta rays during the plankton-rich monsoon season. Grey reef sharks are frequently spotted patrolling the pinnacle's perimeter, and Napoleon wrasse of impressive size are resident. The depth of the surrounding water and unpredictable currents make Dixon's Pinnacle a site for experienced divers, but the payoff is some of the best big-fish encounters in the Andaman Islands. This remote pinnacle exemplifies the frontier diving that draws adventurous divers to India's island territories.
