Pilot Reef is an intermediate dive site in the Andaman Islands, India, near Havelock Island, featuring a gently sloping coral reef descending to 22 meters with some of the healthiest coral coverage in the region. The reef is dominated by impressive table coral formations and dense staghorn thickets that provide shelter for an extraordinary biomass of reef fish. Schools of snapper, fusilier, and surgeonfish create a constant swirl of activity, while turtles are reliably encountered on virtually every dive. The reef's gentle slope and moderate current make it accessible to intermediate divers, while the quality of the coral and density of marine life satisfy the most experienced underwater explorers. Pilot Reef is often recommended as the ideal introduction to Andaman Islands diving, offering the combination of accessible conditions and exceptional reef quality that has established Havelock as India's premier diving destination.
