Kovalam Leo Rock is a beginner-friendly dive site off Kerala's coast in southwestern India, centered on a large rock formation named after a local dive pioneer. The rock rises from a sandy bottom at 12 meters, creating a compact reef habitat covered with hard corals, sponges, and algae. Schools of snapper, fusiliers, and damselfish congregate around the rock, while moray eels and lobsters shelter in the numerous crevices. The rock's sheltered aspects provide calm conditions for new divers, while the more exposed sides attract slightly larger fish and occasional visiting predators. Cuttlefish and octopuses are regularly spotted, and the sandy areas around the rock are worth checking for camouflaged flatfish and burrowing gobies. Leo Rock's compact size makes it easy to navigate and explore thoroughly in a single dive, making it one of Kovalam's most rewarding sites for beginners discovering the underwater treasures of India's Arabian Sea coast.
