Caveam is an advanced cave dive site within Sardinia's Porto Conte Marine Protected Area near Alghero, where a spectacular grotto system penetrates the limestone cliffs to 35 meters depth. The cave's name derives from the Latin word for cavity, reflecting the site's grand proportions — the main chamber is wide enough for several divers abreast. Stalactites hang from the ceiling, formed during ice ages when these caverns were above sea level. The entrance zone transitions from sunlit waters rich with gorgonians to the cave's twilight zone where red coral and rare cave-dwelling crustaceans thrive. Deeper passages require technical certification and lead to secondary chambers with pristine mineral formations. The contrast between the living reef at the entrance and the geological cathedral within makes Caveam one of the most impressive cave dives in the western Mediterranean.

Absolutely stunning dive site. The visibility was exceptional and we spotted several species we had never seen before. Will definitely come back.
Great spot for advanced divers. Currents can be tricky but the marine life makes it worth it.
One of the best dive sites in the region. Highly recommended.
