Secca dell'Ammiraglio — the Admiral's Shoal — is an intermediate dive site within Sardinia's Porto Conte Marine Protected Area near Alghero. This submerged pinnacle rises from 28 meters to within a few meters of the surface, creating a vertical reef wall that concentrates marine life at every depth. The upper sections bask in sunlight, supporting dense meadows of Posidonia and photosynthetic organisms, while the deeper walls are carpeted with red gorgonians, yellow cluster anemones, and encrusting bryozoans. The shoal acts as a magnet for pelagic fish — schools of barracuda, amberjack, and dentex regularly patrol its flanks. Lobsters and large nudibranchs inhabit the crevices, and the site is known for occasional sightings of eagle rays. The pinnacle's exposed position means currents can be significant, adding excitement to this biodiversity hotspot.
