Dromia e Portone is an advanced dive site off the eastern coast of Tavolara Island in northeast Sardinia, named for the sponge crab (Dromia) commonly found here and the large gateway-like rock arch that is the site's centerpiece. The massive stone portal at around 25 meters frames a passage between two granite walls, creating a spectacular swim-through that opens onto a deeper slope reaching 40 meters. The arch and surrounding walls are carpeted with gorgonians, sponges, and colonies of golden zoanthids. Beyond the gateway, the deep slope hosts red coral and large lobsters. The site's namesake sponge crabs are a special attraction — these fascinating creatures carry living sponges on their carapaces as camouflage. Strong currents can develop around the rock formations, requiring careful dive planning and solid skills.

Absolutely stunning dive site. The visibility was exceptional and we spotted several species we had never seen before. Will definitely come back.
Great spot for advanced divers. Currents can be tricky but the marine life makes it worth it.
One of the best dive sites in the region. Highly recommended.
