Frana del Faro — the Lighthouse Landslide — is an advanced dive site off the southeastern tip of Tavolara Island in Sardinia. The site takes its name from an ancient rockslide near the island's lighthouse, where massive granite boulders tumbled into the sea creating a chaotic yet spectacular underwater boulder field descending to 34 meters. The jumbled rocks form an intricate maze of passages, overhangs, and small caves that harbor an extraordinary diversity of marine life. Gorgonians in multiple colors drape the boulder surfaces, while the sheltered crevices host lobsters, moray eels, and large groupers. The deeper sections reveal precious red coral colonies growing in the dimmer light between the boulders. The site's complex topography demands excellent navigation skills, but the reward is one of Tavolara's most dynamic and biologically rich underwater landscapes.
