Mammuthone is an advanced dive site off Tavolara Island in northeast Sardinia, named after the iconic masked figures of Sardinian carnival tradition. The site features a large granite pinnacle rising from 40 meters, its dark weathered surface evoking the brooding mask of a Mammuthone dancer. The rock structure is massive and imposing, with sheer walls dropping into the depths and several overhangs creating sheltered zones where marine life concentrates. Dense gorgonian forests cover the deeper walls, while the shallower sections support a vibrant community of sponges, anemones, and encrusting organisms. Large barracuda schools are a frequent sight, circling the pinnacle in mesmerizing formations. The site's exposure to open-sea currents brings excellent visibility but also requires careful dive planning. Mammuthone combines the wild spirit of Sardinian culture with the island's finest underwater scenery.
