Il canyon fantasma

Il Canyon Fantasma — the Ghost Canyon — is an advanced dive site off Santa Maria di Leuca at the extreme southern tip of Puglia, where the Adriatic and Ionian seas converge. This deep canyon reaches 33 meters, its walls carved from ancient limestone that creates a hauntingly beautiful underwater landscape. The canyon earned its ghostly name from the white gorgonian fans that line its walls, swaying in the currents like spectral figures. Deeper sections reveal rare black coral colonies and dense populations of anthias. The convergence of two seas generates unpredictable currents that bring pelagic species including large schools of barracuda and occasional sunfish. The site's remote location, depth, and current conditions make it one of Puglia's most challenging yet rewarding dives.
