Tevfik Kaptan 1 is an advanced wreck dive off the Puglia coast near Gallipoli, featuring a section of the Turkish merchant vessel Tevfik Kaptan that broke apart during a storm. This stern portion rests on the sandy seabed, providing extensive shelter for marine life. Large conger eels coil in the engine spaces, while the exterior hull hosts thick layers of sponges, hydroids, and bryozoans. Schools of bream and anthias surround the wreck in good visibility conditions. A fascinating combination of maritime misfortune and nature's remarkable ability to transform human structures into thriving ecosystems.
