Sunabe South Steps at the Sunabe Seawall is one of Okinawa's most popular and accessible dive sites, offering easy shore entry via concrete steps into a rich coral reef ecosystem. The site extends to 20 meters over a gentle slope with outstanding coral coverage — massive table corals, branching formations, and soft coral gardens create a textured underwater landscape. The seawall's artificial structure has been colonized by marine life, transitioning seamlessly into the natural reef beyond. The site is famous among macro enthusiasts for its nudibranch diversity, ghost pipefish sightings, and seasonal mandarin fish displays at dusk. Sea turtles are almost guaranteed encounters, often resting on the shallow reef. The ease of entry and exit makes it perfect for night dives, when hunting octopuses, sleeping turtles, and bioluminescent plankton add magic to an already fantastic site. Sunabe Seawall is rightfully considered one of the best shore dives in all of Japan.
