Zamami Island is an intermediate dive site in the Kerama Islands group, about 40 kilometers west of Okinawa's main island. The Kerama Islands are renowned for their extraordinary water clarity — often exceeding 40 meters visibility — earning them the nickname 'Kerama Blue.' The reefs around Zamami feature pristine hard coral gardens in astonishing variety, with over 250 coral species recorded. The site slopes to 30 meters over coral-covered terrain populated by sea turtles (both green and hawksbill), manta rays in season, and dense schools of tropical reef fish. Anemone gardens are particularly impressive, hosting multiple clownfish species. Humpback whales pass through the Kerama waters from January to March, and their songs can sometimes be heard underwater. Zamami represents the very best of Japanese subtropical diving — world-class visibility, pristine coral ecosystems, and reliable encounters with charismatic marine megafauna.

Absolutely stunning dive site. The visibility was exceptional and we spotted several species we had never seen before. Will definitely come back.
Great spot for advanced divers. Currents can be tricky but the marine life makes it worth it.
One of the best dive sites in the region. Highly recommended.
