Koh Wai is an intermediate dive site off Sihanoukville, Cambodia, situated around a small island where deeper waters and stronger currents attract more substantial marine life. The reef descends over rocky formations and coral-covered boulders, with barrel sponges, sea fans, and whip corals creating a diverse underwater landscape. The current-swept conditions bring schools of barracuda and trevally past the reef, while bamboo sharks rest on the sandy areas between rocks. The coral community includes healthy hard coral growth alongside soft corals and gorgonians that sway in the current. Cuttlefish are commonly encountered displaying their remarkable color-changing abilities, and blue-spotted stingrays rest beneath coral overhangs. The site's intermediate rating reflects the current conditions that add excitement but require competent buoyancy skills. Koh Wai offers a step up in marine encounters for divers ready to venture beyond Cambodia's sheltered beginner sites.
