The P-29 is one of Malta's premier wreck dives, a former patrol boat of the Armed Forces of Malta deliberately scuttled off Cirkewwa on the island's northwestern tip to create an artificial reef and diving attraction. Resting upright on the seabed at a maximum depth of thirty-seven meters, this substantial military vessel offers advanced divers an atmospheric wreck penetration experience in the exceptional visibility of Malta's northern waters, complementing the nearby Rozi tugboat to create one of the Mediterranean's finest wreck diving areas. The descent to the P-29 from Cirkewwa's shore entry follows the familiar reef before the seabed drops away toward wreck depth. In Malta's characteristically clear water, the patrol boat's silhouette materializes from the blue with dramatic effect — her military profile, with its purposeful lines and functional superstructure, creates an impression of readiness that persists despite the growing marine colonization of her hull. The wreck is substantial enough to dominate the sandy seabed around her, yet compact enough to explore comprehensively in a single dive. The exterior tour reveals the vessel's military heritage in every detail. Gun mounts, radar equipment, deck winches, and navigation aids are all identifiable despite their coating of marine growth. The hull plates are increasingly covered in sponges and encrusting organisms, and the superstructure has become a vertical reef that supports dense populations of damselfish, bream, and wrasse. Barracuda are regular visitors, their sleek forms patrolling the wreck perimeter, and large groupers have claimed the shadowed areas beneath overhanging structures as their permanent homes. Interior penetration of the P-29 is possible through multiple prepared openings, and the vessel's layout provides a logical exploration route through bridge, mess areas, and engine spaces. The interior is atmospheric — partially lit by ambient light filtering through hatches and portholes, with corridors and compartments that retain the functional character of a military vessel. Marine life has colonized the interior spaces with enthusiasm, and every compartment reveals new residents — from schools of cardinal fish to octopuses that have adopted former storage lockers as their dens. The P-29 at Cirkewwa is a wreck that delivers everything an advanced diver could wish for — accessible depth, excellent condition, rich marine life, and the atmospheric quality that makes wreck diving so compelling. Combined with the nearby Rozi tugboat and the shallower reef sites, the P-29 makes Cirkewwa one of the most complete diving areas in the Mediterranean.
