Lighthouse is an intermediate dive site near the northwestern tip of Mahé in the Seychelles, where the reef descends to thirty meters near a coastal navigation marker that gives the site its name. This location offers some of Mahé's best diving, with the northwestern exposure providing conditions that attract an impressive diversity of marine species. The underwater landscape combines the Seychelles' characteristic granite boulders with developed coral reef, creating a hybrid environment that supports exceptional biodiversity. The granite formations provide the dramatic structural features, while the coral growth fills every available space between and upon the boulders, creating habitat complexity that few other environments can match. The thirty-meter depth provides access to deeper reef communities while keeping the dive within comfortable intermediate limits. The deeper sections support gorgonian fans, soft coral colonies, and the various organisms that thrive in reduced light. The shallower granite formations are bathed in natural light that reveals the full color spectrum of the tropical marine growth. Fish populations at Lighthouse are among the most impressive on Mahé's northwestern coast. The combination of depth, structure, and current exposure creates conditions that attract both resident reef species and passing pelagics. Reef sharks are regularly encountered, while large schools of tropical fish aggregate around the granite formations. Napoleon wrasses of impressive proportions cruise the mid-depth zones. Turtle encounters are a highlight of diving at Lighthouse, with hawksbill turtles particularly common around the granite and coral formations where they feed on sponges. Green turtles also frequent the site, resting on the boulders and grazing on the algae that grows on the granite surfaces. Lighthouse delivers substantial diving that combines the Seychelles' unique granite geology with healthy coral reef and reliable marine encounters, making it one of Mahé's most rewarding dive sites.
