Therese South is an intermediate dive site off the southern face of Therese Island, a small granitic island off Mahé's northwestern coast in the Seychelles. The twenty-two-meter depth and offshore position create conditions where clear water and healthy reef support a diverse marine community that exemplifies the Inner Seychelles' distinctive underwater character. The granite boulder landscape at Therese South is spectacular, with massive rounded rocks creating an underwater terrain of passages, tunnels, and open spaces that invite exploration. The boulders' smooth profiles and enormous scale create a prehistoric quality that distinguishes Seychelles diving from any other tropical destination. Swimming between these ancient geological formations is an experience unique to the granitic islands. Coral growth on and around the granite is healthy and diverse. The clear water at Therese Island's offshore position supports excellent coral development, with hard and soft coral species creating a vibrant biological community on and between the granite formations. The contrast between the grey rock and the colorful marine growth creates the distinctive visual aesthetic of Inner Seychelles diving. The marine community at Therese South includes the full range of Inner Islands species. Hawksbill turtles are particularly common around the granite formations, their sponge-eating habits leading them to the encrusted boulders where their food source is abundant. Reef sharks patrol the deeper areas, while schools of surgeonfish and snapper add mass and movement to the underwater scene. The island's offshore position means that water quality is typically excellent, with visibility routinely exceeding twenty meters. The clear conditions allow the granite landscape to be appreciated in full, with distant formations visible through the blue water, creating a sense of scale that adds grandeur to the diving experience. Therese South captures the essence of Mahé-area diving: dramatic granite geology, healthy coral reef, and the reliable marine encounters that make the Seychelles a world-class diving destination.
