Martini Rock

Martini Rock is one of the most popular dive sites on the UAE's East Coast, located in the clear waters of the Gulf of Oman near Dibba, Fujairah. This beginner-friendly site earns its name from the distinctive rock formation that rises from the sea, said to resemble a martini glass when viewed from the right angle - a whimsical landmark that has become iconic among the region's diving community. Beneath the surface, Martini Rock reveals a vibrant underwater world built around a large rocky pinnacle and its surrounding reef structures. The main formation is covered in a patchwork of hard and soft corals, with gorgonian sea fans adding elegant shapes to the underwater scenery. The rock creates natural walls, slopes, and overhangs that provide endless nooks and crannies to explore. The marine life at Martini Rock is impressively diverse for such a compact site. Schools of snapper and fusilier cruise the water column around the rock, while smaller reef fish - including chromis, anthias, and damselfish - hover above the coral heads in colorful clouds. The rocky overhangs harbor moray eels, crayfish, and an assortment of shrimp species, making this a rewarding site for macro photography enthusiasts. Turtles are regular visitors, and on occasion larger pelagic species pass through the area, drawn by the nutrient-rich currents. Despite its rich offerings, Martini Rock remains very accessible to beginner divers. The relatively shallow depths around the main formation allow for extended dive times, and currents are generally manageable. The varied topography means divers can choose to explore the shallow coral gardens or venture slightly deeper around the base of the pinnacle, tailoring the dive to their comfort and experience level. Visibility at Martini Rock varies with conditions but averages between 5 and 15 meters, with the clearest waters typically found during the cooler months from November through March. Water temperatures are pleasantly warm year-round, ranging from about 22 degrees in winter to 32 degrees in peak summer. Reached by a short boat ride from Dibba, Martini Rock is a staple of East Coast diving and an excellent site for divers looking to enjoy healthy reefs, abundant marine life, and the unique character that makes UAE diving so special.
