Cates Park in Deep Cove, North Vancouver, is a beginner-friendly shore dive in the sheltered waters of Indian Arm. The park provides easy beach access to calm waters that slope gently over a rocky and silty bottom. The site hosts typical Howe Sound marine life including plumose anemones, sea stars, Dungeness crabs, and various species of flatfish. Giant Pacific octopus are occasionally spotted, and the pilings from the old dock create artificial reef habitat. The sheltered location and easy access make this popular for training dives and night dives, with the stunning mountain backdrop adding to the Pacific Northwest diving experience.
