Birchy Head in Nova Scotia is an advanced dive site on a rocky headland where strong tidal currents create a nutrient-rich environment supporting exceptional marine biodiversity. The rocky walls drop steeply into cold Atlantic waters, their surfaces covered with a vibrant mosaic of plumose anemones, encrusting sponges, and northern sea stars. The current attracts large schools of Atlantic herring and mackerel, which in turn draw seals and occasionally minke whales to the area. The exposed position and strong currents demand careful planning and advanced skills, but reward with some of Nova Scotia's most vibrant and wildlife-rich cold-water diving.
