Cross Island in Nova Scotia is an advanced dive site in the exposed waters off the South Shore, where strong Atlantic currents create a nutrient-rich environment around this small island. The underwater terrain features dramatic granite walls plunging into deep water, with ledges and overhangs sheltering large lobsters and wolffish. Dense stands of kelp on the shallower sections give way to anemone-covered walls below. Grey seals are frequent visitors, and the nutrient-laden currents attract schools of herring and mackerel that draw larger predators. The challenging conditions reward experienced divers with some of Nova Scotia's most vibrant cold-water marine life.
