La Rapadura is an advanced dive site off the northern coast of Tenerife near Tacoronte, named after the distinctive sugar-loaf shaped rock formation. This exposed Atlantic site features rugged volcanic terrain with channels, overhangs, and pinnacles swept by nutrient-rich currents. The site supports exceptional biodiversity including large groupers, schools of barracuda, and dense colonies of sponges and hydroids on the rock surfaces. The deeper sections reveal gorgonian fans and black coral, while the turbulent waters attract amberjack and occasional pelagic visitors. The combination of strong currents, swells, and challenging access from the rocky northern coastline limits this rewarding site to experienced divers.
