Swirling Coconut is an intermediate dive in the Somosomo Strait off Taveuni, Fiji, named for the distinctive swirling current patterns that develop around a large coral bommie. The rotating water flow creates a unique diving experience — divers can ride the gentle spiral while observing the bommie's incredible soft coral coverage from all angles. The structure is adorned with dendronephthya in classic Fijian pinks and purples, with gorgonian fans and black coral trees adding texture. The current brings plankton that attracts aggregations of fusiliers and triggerfish. Reef sharks often circle the bommie at depth. A creative and memorable Somosomo Strait dive with a playful character.
