Bomb Reef is a beginner-friendly dive site on the south coast of Crete, named after the remnants of WWII ordnance found on the seabed — a reminder of the Battle of Crete in 1941. The reef has grown around and over these historical artifacts, creating an unusual combination of war relics and natural marine habitat. Fish life is typical of south Crete's healthy reefs: wrasse, sea bream, damselfish, and octopuses populate the rocky formations. The shallow depth and calm conditions make the site accessible to all levels. Bomb Reef provides an interesting historical dimension to an otherwise pleasant Mediterranean reef dive, connecting divers with Crete's significant wartime history.
