Plakias Cave is a beginner-friendly cave dive site on the south coast of Crete, featuring accessible sea caves carved into the coastal limestone. Unlike deep cave systems, these are daylight-penetrated caverns that allow beginners to safely experience the thrill of entering an underwater cave while maintaining visual contact with the entrance. Light filters through the openings creating beautiful effects on the cave walls and ceilings. Marine life congregates around the cave mouths: cardinalfish, shrimp, and crustaceans shelter in the darker recesses while wrasse and damselfish patrol outside. Plakias Cave offers an exciting addition to the area's diving repertoire without requiring specialized cave diving training.
