Ligaria Beach is an intermediate dive site on the north coast of Crete between Heraklion and Agia Pelagia. This picturesque cove offers shore access to a progressively deepening reef system with interesting topography. Rocky ridges alternate with sandy channels, and small walls drop to moderate depths where gorgonian fans and larger sponge colonies appear. The site supports a healthy population of Mediterranean species: groupers guard their territories on the wall, schools of barracuda occasionally pass through, and octopus are plentiful in the rocky areas. The bay provides reasonable shelter from winds, though some swell can enter. Best dived in calm conditions for full exploration of the deeper sections.
