Gianniskari Cave is an easy cavern dive near Paleochora on Crete's south coast, perfect for beginners looking to experience their first overhead environment. The cave has a generous entrance flooded with sunlight, leading to a shallow chamber with a sandy floor and smooth limestone walls. Colourful sponges and small anemones decorate the ceiling, while shrimp and hermit crabs scuttle across the bottom. The site is well-sheltered from wind and waves, ensuring calm conditions on most days. Its shallow depth profile allows extended dive times, making it popular for guided discovery dives and underwater photography sessions in the warm Libyan Sea.
