Gianniskari Reef Paleochora is an advanced dive site featuring a deep offshore reef system near the town of Paleochora on Crete's south coast. The reef drops steeply from a shallow plateau into deep water, with walls covered in dense gorgonian sea fans, red coral, and massive barrel sponges. Strong currents can sweep through the area, bringing impressive pelagic action including large schools of amberjack, dentex, and occasional sunfish. Resident groupers of notable size patrol the deeper ledges. The combination of depth, current, and remote offshore location makes this a site for experienced divers only, typically accessed by a longer boat ride from Paleochora harbor.
