
Illigas Beach West is an easy beginner dive on the south coast of Crete near Paleochora. The western end of Illigas Beach features a gentle sandy entry leading to scattered rock formations and small reef patches. Protected from prevailing winds, the site enjoys calm conditions and warm, clear water throughout the diving season. Marine life is diverse for its depth, with octopus, cuttlefish, nudibranchs, and various wrasse species commonly encountered. Posidonia seagrass beds provide shelter for juvenile fish and seahorses. The relaxed atmosphere and easy access make it perfect for introductory dives, while photographers will appreciate the excellent macro subjects in the shallow reef.
