Kolimbari is a relaxed beginner dive site on the northwest coast of Crete near the town of Kolimbari and its historic Gonias Monastery. The dive starts from a gently sloping shoreline leading to a mixed terrain of sand, Posidonia seagrass, and scattered rocky outcrops. The sheltered bay provides calm conditions ideal for new divers and training exercises. Marine life includes cuttlefish, octopus, colourful wrasse, and schools of bream grazing among the seagrass. Sea cucumbers and starfish dot the sandy patches, and the occasional torpedo ray rests on the bottom. With the White Mountains as a stunning backdrop on the surface, this site combines easy diving with beautiful Cretan scenery.
