Messerschmitt Bf 109 is a fascinating advanced wreck dive on the south coast of Crete near Paleochora. This WWII German fighter plane crashed into the sea during the Battle of Crete in 1941 and now rests on the sandy seabed at significant depth. The aircraft is remarkably well-preserved in the clear, calm Libyan Sea waters, with the fuselage, wings, and engine clearly identifiable. Marine life has colonized the wreck over eight decades: sponges and hydroids cover the metalwork, while scorpionfish and small groupers shelter beneath the wings. The depth and historical significance make this a bucket-list dive for wreck enthusiasts visiting Crete. Boat access only, with decompression planning recommended.
