Spilies (meaning 'Caves' in Greek) is a beginner-friendly dive site on the south coast of Crete, featuring accessible sea caverns and overhangs carved into the limestone coastline. The shallow cave systems allow safe exploration with daylight always visible, making them suitable for divers without cave diving certification. Beautiful light effects play across the cave interiors as sunlight filters through the entrances. The rocky reef around the cave mouths is populated by cardinalfish, shrimp, nudibranchs, and the occasional moray eel. The warm, clear Cretan waters and easy entry conditions make Spilies a highlight of the Plakias diving area, offering a taste of cave diving in a safe environment.
