Small River is a beginner-friendly dive site in the northern Attica coast near Marathon, Greece. Named for a small freshwater stream that enters the sea at this point, the site offers an interesting mix of marine and brackish water environments. The freshwater input creates unique conditions where halocline effects can sometimes be observed. The seabed features a gentle slope of sand and scattered rocks with Posidonia beds. Marine life includes wrasse, damselfish, blennies, and octopus, with the nutrient input from the stream attracting schools of mullet and bream. The calm, sheltered conditions make it ideal for training dives and relaxed exploration near the historic Marathon battlefield.
